About University Library Teaching and Learning Faculty<\/h2>\n

We are experts<\/span><\/i><\/h3>\n

Librarians at Cal State San Marcos have a Master\u2019s in Library and Information Science are faculty. This terminal degree ensures that librarians are experts in a breadth of information organization and retrieval. \u00a0Additionally as faculty, librarians work to improve information organization and access both within the university and within all of academia. \u00a0Issues of special concern and focus for librarians include scholarly communication, open access, metadata standardization, information literacy, and many other subjects. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are educators<\/span><\/i><\/h3>\n

We are experts in educating users to identify, find, and use the best information resources for your field. \u00a0Librarians at CSUSM teach and assist students from their first semester through their graduation and into their graduate work. \u00a0Librarians teach classes, develop online instructional materials, and work with faculty to develop high quality and effective learning environments. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We are specialists<\/span><\/i><\/h3>\n

Each instruction librarian is also a subject specialist and brings unique knowledge to their instruction, development of library collections, and assistance to students, faculty, and staff. \u00a0We know our subject areas from the information creation and use perspective.<\/span><\/p>\n

  • For example, the Business Librarian\u2019s knowledge of the intricacies of navigating Mergent Online helps Business 302 students successfully compare ratios.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Similarly, our Science Librarian\u2019s knowledge of PubMed\u2019s MeSH system is vital to helping a biochemistry student track down needed articles.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
