Based on our program goals, the following criteria is used to select books for CSUSM\u2019s Common Read:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Noteworthy, acclaimed text (fiction or non-fiction)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Relevant, compelling, and timely topics and themes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Widely accessible (e.g. paperback, e-book, audio)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Curricular resources available (e.g. lesson plans,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ffffff\"> discussion guides, related links)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Selection Timeline<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Fall Semester: Library faculty identify three or more options for upcoming Common Read.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Early Spring: Feedback is gathered from First Year Programs and a campus wide survey is administered.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Late Spring: Upcoming Common Read announced.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">Summer: Fall events and programs planned.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">History<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff\">CSUSM started its Common Read in 2011 when it partnered with local colleges to bring author Rebecca Skloot to San Diego County.
